Before we bought our house, Alex and I lived in Baltimore City. We rented the most adorable little townhome in Canton that I still drive by whenever I’m in the area. Hopefully the current tenants haven’t noticed! I learned a lot of things while we lived there. I learned there is nothing quite like the satisfaction of finding a parking space on the same block as your house. I learned you can spend a lot of money when everything you love is within walking distance. And, maybe most importantly, I learned that Baltimore loves their dogs.
Oh autumn. Your golden light and warm breezes make us all swoon! Unless you’re the Kelleys...then autumn gives you bitter temperatures and biting winds. And this was after we had already rescheduled once for torrential downpour.
Is there a better way to spend your Labor Day than with Wonder Woman? How about spending it with three Wonder Womans and their whole family? Well let me tell you, if you know the Hlavka family, you’ll understand why I say I can’t think of a better way!
Maryland Family Photgraphy // Multi-Generation Session // Rockburn Park - Howard County, MD9/5/2017
When it comes to photography, you can think up almost any reason to hire someone to take your photos. One of my favorite stories from photography team Amy and Jordan Demos is that of the doggie yoga party they photographed! Who would have thought? But the photos sure did turn out cute!
What do you do when you go on an international trip with your three children? Book a photo shoot of course! Ok, so maybe not everyone thinks that way, but I sure am glad Alice did! It is such a special way to document an important trip like this one was for her. Ironically, as I was shooting this, my parents were arriving in France to visit my uncle!
There are some serious perks to being a photographer in Maryland. A lot of people refer to our state as America in miniature. To start with, we get almost every type of weather. Hot and humid? Check. Cold and snowy? Check. Perfect, low-humidity, 70 degree days? Check, check, check! We also have almost any landscape you can think of. To the west, we have mountains, and to the east, the ocean. Get in the car and drive three hours in any direction and you feel like you’ve driven across the country!
This family right here! I feel such a strong connection to them. I started taking pictures for their family when their first born, Charlotte, was less than two weeks old. Ever since then, I’ve pretty much been capturing family portraits for them about twice a year, with a few extra thrown in here and there! You can’t not get close when you get to see each other that often! All of our shoots have been full of smiles and happiness, but as I went through this one, I was simply taken aback by the genuine joy pouring out of each photo.
If you are a Maryland photographer, the month of May was a tough one for you. It rained. A lot. All month long. We saw a few glimpses of sunshine here and there, but the skies would quickly cloud back over and the rain would fall again. You can imagine then, how excited I was to wake up the morning of the Batt’s family session and see broken clouds instead of rain. And how that excitement turned to ecstasy at the sight of the sun poking through when we were strolling to our location. It just felt so good to see those rays of light!
Being a Maryland photographer has its perks, and the diverse locations I get to shoot is definitely one of them! I love exploring all of the beautiful and varied backdrops this state offers. Don’t even get me started on how different the same location can look just a few months apart. From fall leaves to spring flowers to green summers, each place undergoes a complete transformation. Gotta love those Maryland seasons!
It was the first weekend in April and the day dawned bright and sunny. I had been looking forward to this shoot for weeks. Not only was it my first outdoor shoot for the spring season, but it was with one of my favorite families. Repeat clients are a true joy in the photography world. Everyone is at ease right from the start and you spend almost as time chatting and laughing as you do taking photos!
