I'm starting to think that engagement sessions are my favorite to photograph. It might just be because those are the ones I've done the most of, but either way, I LOVE them.
Almost every time I photograph a couple they tell me how awkward they feel in front of a camera. What I've realized as I've done more shoots is that it doesn't matter how they feel with a camera, it's all about how they feel with each other. Couples who are comfortable with each other and have fun with each other get the best shots. This statement could not have been more true for Jeremy and Kelly. Let's start with the fact that they are two very low maintenance people. They didn't mind traipsing all over Harpers Ferry, WV with all their stuff, they were willing to do some crazy (and some slightly dangerous) poses, and they didn't bat an eye when the projected rain made it's appearance about a half hour before we were done. But aside from all that, they are also two people who very clearly enjoy spending time together. When I get a couple like that in front of the lens, my job is incredibly easy. They might have thought they would need a lot of direction from me, but within minutes they were in tune with each other and what they wanted out of the shoot and all I had to do was click away. We wandered through some of the more natural spots in Harpers Ferry and then through the town for some great rustic backdrops. The whole time we were laughing and talking and it went very quickly. At least I think it did for Kelly and me. And if it didn't for Jeremy, he didn't let on at all. He was a great sport. I really enjoyed getting to explore such a historical place, but more importantly, getting to spend a few hours with such a fun couple. I wish them the best for their destination wedding next fall and can't wait to see those pictures!
